The Hidden Harm Project
Many people think abuse is always physical. However, some forms of abuse leave no visible injuries and can be much harder to recognise.
The Hidden Harm Project is an awareness and education campaign by Voices for Change Advocacy, created to help people understand coercive control, psychological abuse, and the lasting impact these experiences can have on wellbeing.
Coercive control often develops gradually and may include behaviours such as monitoring, isolation, intimidation, manipulation, financial control, or making someone feel responsible for another person's emotions or reactions. Over time, these experiences can affect confidence, decision-making, relationships, and a person's sense of self.
The Hidden Harm Project aims to:
Raise awareness of coercive control and psychological abuse
Help people recognise behaviours that may be harmful or controlling
Increase understanding of trauma and survival responses
Provide accessible education and information
Encourage people to seek support when something does not feel right
Many individuals question their experiences for months or even years before reaching out for help. Our goal is not to tell people what they are experiencing, but to provide information, support, and a safe space for exploration and understanding.
If You're Wondering
If you find yourself asking questions such as:
"Is this normal?"
"Why do I feel like I'm walking on eggshells?"
"Why do I feel responsible for their reactions?"
"Why do I doubt myself so much?"
"Why do I still feel affected long after the relationship has ended?"
You are not alone.
